Community Development

Community Development Services (CDS) is a "Meaningful Day" program designed to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities become fully integrated, independent, and active members of their local communities. Unlike traditional Day Habilitation, which often takes place inside a specialized facility or center, CDS is 100% community-based. Staff members meet participants directly in the community to work on personal, social, and mobile independence goals in real-world settings.

Core Areas of Support

Social and Interpersonal Skills

Developing confidence and building natural, organic friendships with non-disabled peers in public environments

Travel Training

Learning how to navigate local public transportation networks, use paratransit systems, map routes, and practice street safety.

Community Engagement

Joining mainstream civic activities, such as classes at public gyms, recreational clubs, local libraries, and faith-based groups.

Volunteerism and Pre-Vocational Skills

Assisting at local food banks, animal shelters, or historical sites to build basic workplace routines and explore vocational interests.

Financial Literacy

Practicing commercial math, making cash or card transactions, budgeting during outings, and ordering food independently.
